Competition Seeks Dynamic Images from Emerging Talent
New York, NY, May 7, 2008 - PhotoShelter Inc., the leading online destination where more than 30,000 professional and amateur photographers find tools and opportunities for selling their work, today announced that it will participate as a gold sponsor of EXPOSURE, a nation-wide open call for new photography launched by the Artists Wanted program. Open to photographers of all backgrounds and experiences, the EXPOSURE competition seeks dynamic images that speak beyond the bounds of the frame. The competition is open between now and June 17th at www.artistswanted.org/exposure/. The winning photographer will be selected by a panel of judges that consists of New York Times Photo Editor Patrick Witty, Supermodel and Fashion Icon Tiiu Kuik, and NYC Gallery Owner David Kesting. The winner will also be featured in a rock star photo show that includes images projected on a massive scale throughout the top art neighborhoods in New York City: Chelsea, Dumbo and Williamsburg. In addition, the winner will receive $2,008 in cash, a full-press promotional campaign and a series of sponsor-awarded prizes.
"Both PhotoShelter and Artists Wanted focus heavily on cultivating emerging talent, and as a result, we know our sponsorship of the EXPOSURE competition will be exciting for us and, hopefully, all of the participants," said PhotoShelter CEO Allen Murabayashi. "Like Artists Wanted, PhotoShelter believes that photographers should have greater opportunities to break into the professional world, and we're excited to help recognize their work on a grand scale. The EXPOSURE project will introduce PhotoShelter to a new audience of talented, emerging photographers seeking to take their craft to new levels. In turn, EXPOSURE gives us the chance to demonstrate how The PhotoShelter Collection has created new markets for photographers whose freshness and authenticity push the boundaries of traditional stock photography."
The EXPOSURE competition will culminate in an Opening Party on August 9th at the Leo Kesting Gallery in New York's Meat Packing District. Several unique prizes include:
- The Grand Prize: The Top Photographer's work will be presented in a massive scale photo show on buildings in the top New York City Art Districts: Chelsea, Dumbo and Williamsburg. An Opening Event will be hosted at the Leo Kesting Gallery in Manhattan on August 9th. The winner will receive: $2,008 cash, a full-press promotional campaign and a feature in Artists Wanted's upcoming publication, The Annual.
- Student Award: The Top Student Photographer will receive a $1,000 scholarship and a feature in The Annual.
- Educator's Grant: The Educator of the Top Student Photographer will receive a $500 discretionary grant and a feature in The Annual for Teaching Excellence.
- People's Choice Award: The public will vote on all the portfolios on our site and select their Top Artist. The People's Choice Photographer will receive a $500 grant and a feature in The Annual.
