PHOTOSHELTER'S SHOOT! THE DAY INSPIRES HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF NEW STOCK PHOTOS, ESTABLISHES NEW DIALOGUE BETWEEN PHOTOGRAPHERS, IMAGE BUYERS

Thousands worldwide take photos, while hundreds gather for New York City event with image buyers
from magazines and ad agencies, including TIME, Travel + Leisure, Hill Holliday New York

New York, NY, July 22, 2008 - PhotoShelter Inc., the leading online destination where more than 37,000 photographers sell stock photography and access powerful solutions for e-commerce and image storage, today announced an estimated quarter million stock images were captured during its Shoot! The Day event, held July 20, 2008, many of which will be available to be licensed beginning this week. It is believed to be among the largest single-day contributions to the stock photo supply in history. Shoot! The Day also established a new connection between the image-buying community and thousands of talented photographers worldwide, launching a collaborative conversation designed to revitalize the pipeline of fresh new images in specific areas of greatest buyer demand.

During Shoot! The Day, over 300 attendees joined a live event in New York City filled with discussion, product demonstrations and on-location photo shoots, while, an estimated 4,200 photographers shot images in hundreds of cities in more than a dozen countries worldwide. All were invited to capture images in five major categories that lack freshness and diversity according to photo buyers surveyed by PhotoShelter: youth culture, business and technology, families and kids, active seniors and still life. Photographers now have one week to submit their images from Shoot! The Day to be licensed through The PhotoShelter Collection and judged for prizes, including a Nikon D300 D-SLR and a 18-200mm DX lens.

"A massive event like Shoot! The Day shows how we can inject much needed freshness and diversity into stock photography. Sharing buyer insights and technical guidance with thousands of photographers worldwide, and engaging this community to take pictures in areas of greatest demand allows us to directly respond to buyer needs," said Allen Murabayashi, CEO of PhotoShelter. "With groups and individuals participating from Los Angeles to Abu Dhabi, each photographer's unique perspective has and will continue to add to the richness and vitality of the industry. We're excited to make the best of their images to available to buyers through the PhotoShelter Collection."

The New York City symposium brought together innovative manufacturers, retailers, media, industry organizations and related service providers for a full afternoon of networking and product demonstrations. Keynote speaker Rob Haggart, the photography director behind aphotoeditor.com, delivered his Editorial Bootcamp talk to a packed room of more than 200 photographers eager to learn how to get the attention of editorial photo editors. Keynote speaker Rachel Rein, an art buyer at ad agency Hill Holliday, New York, discussed the creative process and stock photo selection behind one of the firm's recent national campaigns. Panelists from leading magazines included TIME, Travel & Leisure, AARP Bulletin, and Conde Nast Portfolio. Ad agencies represented include Strawberry Frog, Greater Than One, and Unit7.

Shoot! The Day's New York City event was also the home base for five on-location photo shoots dubbed Shoot! On Location. Using Shoot Digital Studios as a home base, 20 talented photographers, hand-picked from more than 750 applicants, headed out on five dream photo shoots based on the day's key image categories. They were led by expert instructors and armed by Nikon, ProPhoto, and PhotoShelter with all necessary equipment and staff for their shoots. Equipment included the Nikon D700 - which was displayed for the first time publicly through Shoot! The Day.

"It was so luxurious to arrive and have a photo shoot already set up for my group, and it was fun to get my hands on the new Nikon D700. The entire Shoot! The Day event showed that PhotoShelter is on my side, helping photographers to succeed," said Leah Fasten, a Boston-area photographer who was part of the Shoot! On Location group. "Collaborating with other photographers during Shoot! The Day was an invaluable experience for me."

All photographers who took pictures in the five Shoot! The Day categories are encouraged to submit their work to the PhotoShelter Collection. To be eligible for the competition, photographers must submit their images by July 27, 2008. The best photos will be selected by a panel of leading image buyers. Winners will be announced September 8, 2008.
