PhotoShelter Newsletter | June 2009
Fresh off our appearance on the Discovery Channel's Cash Cab, we're coming at ya with a load of information for June.
In this month's issue:
SEO Kit for Photographers SupplementBy now, you've probably downloaded our SEO Kit for Photographers, and started to implement the factors that will get your images found by Google and the other major search engines. We're following that up with some great supplemental information to keep the learning going!
June Webinars are Hot!Get the most out of your PhotoShelter account by attending one of our webinars from anywhere! Rachel and Allen will guide you through a variety of topics.
SAA GetMETAsmart SeminarsWorking under an award from the Library of Congress, the Stock Artists Alliance Photo Metadata Project is on a mission to promote industry-wide use of photo metadata in every digital image file. Not just for stock photographers! PhotoShelter will be participating in a number of these no cost seminars.
And, if you're serious about stock photography, consider joining the SAA. They're a huge advocate for your rights, and a fantastic information and career resource. They're offering PhotoShelter members an introductory rate of 40% off member dues - only $125!
Look3 Festival of the PhotographJoin us in Charlottesville, VA to celebrate the Festival of the Photograph. Use your PhotoShelter account to submit images that will be projected at various venues around the festival! If you're attending in person, come by and say hello to Andrew and Allen at the YourSpace exhibit. We'll be stretching our legs from our roadtrip from NYC.
NYC Photoworks: Workshops & portfolio reviewsNYC Photoworks is one of PhotoShelter's newest partners - their mission is to bridge the gap between photographers and photo editors (Sound familiar? That's why we like these guys.) They've assembled over 60 editors from major publications to do portfolio reviews, and photographers can get their work in front of 14 of them over 2 days. They'll be using PhotoShelter in many ways so you need not be in NYC to participate! They're doing some amazing workshops for great hands-on learning too, with top photographers like Mark Asnin, Rob Howard, and Ron Levine.
Bye BuyYou might have used our embeddable images in your blogs and webpages -- they are a great way to provide an automatic link back to your PhotoShelter account. Previously, if the image was priced, the word "BUY" would appear in the lower border. A number of users thought that this was a bit too "commercial", so we have now made it optional.
Local Grant Winner: Girl Scouts of New Mexico TrailsIn May, we launched the PhotoShelter Stimulus Plan to provide local grants for photography events and activities, and we were deluged with amazing applications. Our first winner for June 2009 is PhotoShelter member Christina Frain, who will be leading a series of girl scout treks this month that bring together high adventure, outdoor activity and creative projects. The girl scouts will travel to Chaco Canyon, the Great Sand Dunes National Park, and the mountains above Telluride, CO. PhotoShelter is helping equip them with cameras and a PhotoShelter account, which they'll use to sell photo products from their adventures to raise money for their organization.
