Palestininans run for cover as incoming fire hits nearby following an Israeli air strike in Gaza City on January 1, 2009. Israeli artillery today bombarded the Gaza Strip in a dramatic escalation of the campaign against Hamas after a week of air attacks which have left more than 450 Palestinians dead. New Israeli air strikes killed at least 10 Palestinians in a mosque as well as two Hamas military commanders as pressure mounted on the Hamas Leadership to cease rocket-fire into Southern Israel.
