A Palestinian mother weeps after the death of her son in Gaza City on January 4, 2009, following an Israeli air strike. Israeli artillery bombarded the Gaza Strip in a dramatic escalation of the campaign against Hamas after a week of air attacks which have left more than 450 Palestinians dead. New Israeli air strikes killed at least ten Palestinians in a mosque as well as two Hamas military commanders as pressure mounted on the Hamas Leadership.
