There are pearls of sweat on our foreheads. The legs feel like lead. This is the revenge of the Dolomiti Friulani, the eastern most mountains in Italy's northern Dolomities. A landscape of towering rock formations encloses us on all sides. The steep gravel path takes us to the Passo del Inferno which in literal translation, means we are on the road from hell! There are pearls of sweat on our foreheads. The legs feel like lead. This is the revenge of the Dolomiti Friulani, the eastern most mountains in Italy's northern Dolomities. A landscape of towering rock formations encloses us on all sides. The steep gravel path takes us to the Passo del Inferno which in literal translation, means we are on the road from hell! Nonetheless the effort is rewarded (as most hellish climbs are) with a beautiful vista over valleys and the surrounding mountains. We will continue on to our first refugio, where more rewards await; rest, good food and stories to tell.
