The Indonesian island of Java was once known as Batavia under Dutch occupation. Still today the influence of this colonial period remains, most noted by the architectural designs seen throughout the island. The mainly Muslim population can be found planting rice, harvesting coconuts, palm sugar and coco nuts that blanket the countryside.
