Let Mountainl life take over. Take away televisions, computers, for that matter any electricity whatsoever. Add a bucket full of snow for cold storage, a well stocked wood pile to fire up the stove for heat and cooking, a good book to exercise the brain, a note pad to keep your journal and a deck of cards for some challenging entertainment. What more do you need? Oh yeh, the cows. We definitely cannot forget the cows that are brought up to the alm every June for grazing and then linger about until around the end of September chomping away at their favourite spot of greenery. It's sort of like a summer vacation for them and, in return, they faithfully empty litres of that creamy white stuff for your coffee, your cereal, to make yogurt, puddings, cheeses and more. Life on the alm is not simple, yet again, very simple. It takes a bit of work, some ingenuity and a dose of determination, especially when lighting the wood stove, but the 'payback' is more than worth any effort; silence, fresh mountain air, ice cold crystal clear mountain water, and views to take your breath away. « less
