No one was home at the time of the fire, officials said, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation. Neighbors in the area reported hearing a nearby lightning strike shortly before discovering the fire.

Brand said after Saturday's loss in the mayoral race that he would never again seek elected office, but still wishes to drive public debate and help city officials with long range planning -- after he takes his wife Kay on a well-deserved vacation. "My life doesn't consist of just being Mayor. It's more than that," Brand said.
