Ash-Lee Henderson, Jared Story, Tanya Turner, Kim Kirkbride, Willie Dodson, Will Wichham, Mathew Louis-Rosennberg and Glenn Collins, activists with Mountain Justice and Climate Ground Zero approach the mining equipment just before dawn on May 23, 2009, when six of the activists locked themselves to the machinery in protest of mountaintop removal. The eight activists locked down for 5 hours and were subsequently arrested by the Boone County Sheriff's office. All told, ten law enforcement officers from three separate agencies responded to the protest on Kayford Mountain.
