About Johnny Bivera
Johnny Bivera is a freelance photojournalist with over 20 years experience in visual communication. He has captured images worldwide from everyday life to the hostilities of war and was an official videographer to the President of the United States Bill Clinton and personal photographer to Chief of Naval Operations Admiral Vern Clark and Chairman of the Joint Chief's of Staff Admiral Mike Mullen. He's covered combat and humanitarian missions to places and events like maritime operations during the Bosnia/Herzegovina conflict, the Israeli-Jordan Peace Treaty, Turkey's tragic earthquake and operational missions into Afghanistan after September 11.
His career has taken him to some of the world's most remote places and historical moments. A talented and versatile photographer, his work has appeared in major newspapers, magazines and video documentaries. He's been profiled on PBS's Jim Lehrer NewsHour, C-SPAN's American Journal and NFL Films 'American Postcards'. His imagery has been published in numerous books and has worked on projects for publishers Harper Collins and the National Geographic Society.
He provides multimedia support for a variety of clients in covering news, events, and portraiture. He stays busy working on mentorship programs for photographers and the creation of a non profit online social and nature conservation photography program for high school students around the world called Our Visual Planet.
He was past president of the National Association of Naval Photography and founded the NANP DC Chapter, the DC Shoot Off workshop and the NANP Navy Visual News Service Impact Awards. He is a member of the White House News Photographers Association, the American Society of Magazine Photographers, Editorial Photographers and the National Press Photographers Association.
