In Yorkshire in the 1940's to 1960's in a rural town there were the beginnings of some domestic technological improvements. The television was available to well-off households, and the wireless also provided some welcome news and entertainment. Pianos were still found in may houses. Magazines and newspapers were popular. Transistor radios were beginning to appear in the shops. Washing machines were in places replacing the old fashioned wash boiler, with dolly legs and posser and washboard....
