Hunting Island, SC, USA

Hunting Island Lighthouse in South Carolina, USA in April.  Hunting Island is well known for its five mile white sand beach, and the lighthouse re-built in 1875. The first lighthouse on Hunting Island was destroyed by the confederates, during the Civil War, to prevent the Union from using it as a means of navigation. It was re-built in 1875 and remained in service until it was deactivated in 1933. Today it is the only lighthouse open to the public in South Carolina. It stands 132 feet above the ground, Tourists enjoy the view from the observation tower.  They are looking out over the Atlantic Ocean in a southern direction.
