1986 - A collection of Gunther Deichmann's images won for its publishers at the International Travel Awards - 1st. prize for Best Domestic Brochure, 1st. prize for Best International Brochure and the National Tourism Award.
1986 - One of Gunther Deichmann's images was used in an ad campaign that won awards at the Art Directors Club in Melbourne, Australia.
1987 - The NT Press Club Annual Media Awards in Australia awarded Gunther the ‘Pictorial Excellence Award' and he received the ‘Sheraton Award' for promotion of tourism in the NT.
A photo-essay for Thai Int. Air. won him a PATA award, and he has been on the PATA Gold Awards Honors Roll in Osaka.
In 1989 the Australian rock band, Midnight Oil, used one of his images for the cover of their album, “Blue Sky Mining” .
