Provence is a beautiful region of southeastern France bordering the Alps, the Mediterranean and Italy. It is part of the administrative région of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur and comprises the départements of Var, Vaucluse, and Bouches-du-Rhône and parts of Alpes-de-Haute-Provence and Alpes-Maritimes. Provence is a beautiful region of southeastern France bordering the Alps, the Mediterranean and Italy. It is part of the administrative région of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur and comprises the départements of Var, Vaucluse, and Bouches-du-Rhône and parts of Alpes-de-Haute-Provence and Alpes-Maritimes. The Romans who conquered it in the 2nd Century B.C and many traces of Roman antiquity remain. Its beautiful landscape and vibrant colours has long attracted artists, particularly Cezanne who spent much time painting Mont St Victoire near Aix-en-Provence where a number of these photographs were made. I have been visiting Provence and the Côte d'Azur since the early 1970s and have photographed Nice, St Paul de Vence, Vence,
St Tropez, Arles, Orange, The Gorge of Verdun, as well as many of the smaller hill towns and villages which characterize this lovely part of France. I photographed truffles from this region for Elizabeth Luard's book on this subject and have also produced a number of images featuring the delicious food and the vibrant markets of this region.
