There is a term that seems to be entering the photography industry these days that describes some photographers. It is the word "generalist," and I would put myself in that breed of photographers. By saying that, I mean that I do all types of photography -- everything from events, spot news and sports to portraiture and illustrations. It's an appropriate description for what a modern photojournalist is required to do on a day-to-day basis. What drives me in that ever-changing world is the desire to get my camera in different places so I can make amazing pictures. I am drawn to opportunities where I can look critically at a given project and think of a different way to capture it. Ways that put a twist on the typical picture.

Another large part of my passion for photography centers around the collaborative process that happens before the camera even leaves the bag. I approach every photo as a project and, as with any project, the homework pays off. I enjoy working with clients and communicating how we can accomplish what they envision. I am a strong believer that good photography is created as much from good preparation as it is from a good eye. Making cool photos rarely happens without a little forethought.

After several years experience in the world of photojournalism, I can honestly say photography is the only thing that still scares and inspires me all at the same time. Nothing excites me more than making cool photos.
