Callisto Head looking onto Bear Glacier

00584.jpg 37 of 131 « prev next »
An aerial view of the Bear Glacier, seen as it flows down from the Harding Icefield in the Kenai Fjords National Park of southcentral Alaska. Turning Callisto Head, the view is very dramatic; the valley opens up to reveal Bear Glacier and the ice in the lake. In the summer it is common to see black bears in this area, as it provides a very secluded place for the sow to raise her cubs.
