Low clouds over the Denali National Park with Mt. McKinley in the clear evening sunset. Mt. McKinley at 20,320' is the tallest mountain in North America. It is also considered the mountain with the greatest vertical raise in the world from its base to the very top. Mount McKinley is the center of Denali National Park, but it is also part of the great Alaska Range of mountains and glaciers ranging practecally from sea level to over 20,000'. The Alaskan Natives have called this mountain Denali, The Great One. On a clear day, it can be seen from downtown Anchorage as well as downtown Fairbanks on the other side of The Alaska Range. The mountaineering community frequent Talkeetna from April to early August in their quest to reaching the summit.
