Tiger Glacier flowing down from Sargent Icefield

00615.jpg 24 of 56 « prev next »
Tiger Glacier flows down from the Sargent Icefield and becomes a tidewater glacier. It enters Icy Bay in the Prince William Sound, southcentral Alaska. Sargent Icefield is one of the largest icefields in North America. The snowfall has not kept up with the annual glacier melting and, as a result, the Sargent Icefield is melting as the glacier it is feeding is gradualy receding. Some of the receding glacier is blamed on global warming, but changes in weather patterns and wind direction are the most likely causes of a lower annual snowfall.
