On the 8th of August 2008 the Russian troops launch an attack, bombing several cities and villages around Gori, as retaliation for the invasion from the Georgian army on the proclaimed independent South Ossetia region two days before.
Several civilians died, others got severely injured and thousands fled their homes during the attack that last five days.
