Founded in the 1660s, Manaus was a prosperous center of the wild-rubber trade in the late 19th century. The rubber boom brought prosperity and short-lived splendor, the belle-epoque. The Saint Sebastian plaza, where is located the Amazon thetre is now a Cutural Center. June 2005.
