About Steve McLaughlin Photography
It wasn’t long before there was light blocking paper over the window of the laundry room of Steve’s house and a black and white enlarger balanced between the washer and dryer. In that first darkroom Steve developed and eye for light and a drive to produce the best possible images.
At New Hampshire College Steve’s love of photography mixed with his love of athletics and he served as the college newspaper’s Sports Editor and Photography Editor. Steve worked for the public relations department as a photographer, the athletic department as a team manager and the office of residence life as a resident assistant along the way to graduation with a degree in business.
After college the pictures kept coming and the dream of starting a business began to develop. But first there was a career in the golf business that saw Steve achieve membership in the Professional Golfers Association of America while working for several local Connecticut golf courses and a course on the Gulf Coast of Florida. Many years of work at Connecticut insurance companies paid the bills and raised a family.
The digital age brought many people back to photography. The dream of having a photography business rose to the surface and was shelved many times over the years. There was always the argument that there were already so many talented photographers out there. Steve wrestled with the idea over and over again. As with most stories of dreams turned reality, it took the urging of a good and logical person to get things started. Steve’s wife Carole provided that support.
So, in February of 2007 Steve began creating digital images with one goal in mind: create the best possible images under any given circumstances. After almost three years of work with only word of mouth advertising and quality images to speak for the company Steve McLaughlin’s work has appeared in over 17 newspapers and magazines. Fifteen colleges and universities have used Steve’s images on their web sites, media guides and marketing material. Steve has contracts with two major Connecticut Universities to provide sports and media coverage.
So, 32 years after first walking into to Photography 101 Steve McLaughlin is on his way to seeing his dream come true.
