It separates two National Parks: Parque Nacional Nahuel Huapi in Argentina and Parque Nacional Vicente Pérez Rosales in Chile. Its flanks are covered by seven big glaciers (Frias, Alerce, Castaño Overo, Manso, Peulla, Casa Pangue and Río Blanco). The name Tronador (Spanish for "Thunderer") was given by the locals in reference to the constant sound of the falling seracs in the glaciers. It was first climbed by Hermann Claussen solo, on January 29th of 1934, after several attempts. « less
