A red boat rafts down a river in a tropical rain forest during the Ecomotion Pro 2005 - Serras Gauchas adventure race. Canela, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, Thursday, Oct. 06, 2005...The Ecomotion Pro is one of the world's largest and most challenging adventure races (and the greatest in Brazil as of 2007) and is part of the AR World Series circuit, the adventure race world championship. In 2005, it was held at the "Serras Gauchas" area, a mountainous region at the south of Brazil, in the Rio Grande do Sul State. A total of 52 four-people-teams joined the event that took place from October 2nd and October 8th, with disciplines ranging from adventure running to mountain biking, kayaking, rafting, vertical techniques (rappelling, ascending, and crossing rivers) and pulling horses loaded with food for children in remote villages. It took exactly 2 days, 20 hours and 43 minutes for Spanish Team Buff Nike ACG to cross the finish line in first place after 444 kilometres (275.8 miles) of challenging racing ground, sleep deprivation and foul weather. Top teams from all over the world joined the event with home countries including Spain, New Zealand, United States, Sweden, Colombia and Uruguay among others. Only 29 out of the 52 teams that left Torres made it to the finish line in Gramado completing the whole circuit. « less
