This is the stately chief of the Maasai village we visited in Kenya. He is wrapped in a red patterned blanket and a cow hide to stave off the morning chill. The Maasai are pastoral, herding cattle in the savanna of Kenya. The hut behind him is a stick-work frame covered with cattle dung. The women build the huts when they move to a new area. The huts are built into a circle taht is used to form a corral to protect the cattle at night.
