Sergeant Matthis Chiroux, who served 4 years in the United States Army until being honorably discharged, became an icon of the antiwar movement when he publicly refused deployment orders to Iraq in 2008. He became the face of Iraq Veterans Against the War (IVAW), a high profile antiwar group consisted of veterans who learned the calamities of wars firsthand.
