About Veronika Lukasova
Veronika Lukasova was born in the city of Brno, in the former Czechoslovak Socialistic Republic where she also earned MA in Linguistics and Musicology. In 1998, she moved to Washington DC, USA, and began pursuing a career in photography, studying at the Maine Photographic Workshops, The Woodstock Center for Photography and Eddie Adams Workshop.
Lukasova's curiosity in peculiar and quintessentially American life led to projects on County Fairs, Demolition Derbies, American Seniors, and Christian themed amusement parks. Her large-scale panorama project Occurrences offers a surrealistic look at American, Czech, British, Colombian and Libyan landscapes.
Lukasova's work has been featured widely throughout the world, including being a regular contributor to The Washington Post Magazine and The New York Times. Her work was also selected in the 2007 exhibit and book project "A Day in the life of the Czech Republic". Veronika has been awarded numerous honors, including awards from the Women in Photography International, Prix de la photographie Paris, International Photography Awards and in addition was selected as a nominee for the World Press Photo Joop Swart Master Class. Recently, she won a 1st prize for a portrait series at the Czech Press Photo 2009 competition.
Veronika's work has been exhibited in many solo and group exhibitions throughout the United States and the Czech Republic. Her work is in the collection of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Washington DC and many private collections.
