On June 5, 2009 1st Platoon Charlie Co. of the 2/87 Infantry Regiment conducted an Air Assault on the village of Lachikhel, in the Tangi Valley of Wardak province. Part of the Army's counterinsurgency strategy, the mission was more Clear, than say Hold or Build. Descending from helicopters in the night, soldiers accompanied by ANP police officers searched every one of the 90 or so compounds and houses in this remote village. After a day of promising humanitarian aid that couldn't arrive due to bad weather, then detaining a villager for harboring suspicious items, despite their professionalism and some good interactions, they seemed to leave the village without too many more friends than they arrived with.
