USA Migrant Labor Shortage
Toni Scully owner of the Scully Packing Company in Finley, CA becomes emotional as she stands next to piles of rotting pears on Tuesday, September 12, 2006. The plant typically discards less than a truckload a season, while this season Ð due to a lack of laborers Ð they're discarding 4-6 truckloads per day. Stepped-up border enforcement has led to a shortage of migrant labor which has left much of the pear crop rotting on the tree and ground in Lake County.
