A Bangladeshi immigrant works continuously to keep garbage burning on March 9, 2009 on Thilafushi Island, Maldives. While the Maldives require all island resorts to maintain highly sustainable practices and they market themselves as environmentally sustainable destinations, the capital of Malé is far from sustainable. Garbage from the nearby capital is brought to Thilafushi and burned openly, releasing climate change altering soot and carbon dioxide on a massive scale.
