City Council officials have said that if they can't cut a deal with the hotel owner, the city will likely use its eminent domain powers to seize the property.The Americana at Brand is owned by real estate developer Caruso Affiliated, which also owns The Grove at Farmers Market in Los Angeles. It is an open space shopping complex and living facility, with 75 retail shops, 19 restaurants,100 condominiums and 238 apartments and an animated fountain. .
