USA Migrant Labor Shortage
Rotting pears are culled at the Scully Packing Company in Finley, CA on Tuesday, September 12, 2006. The plant typically discards less than a truckload a season, while this season Ð due to a lack of laborers Ð they're discarding 4-6 truckloads per day. Stepped-up border enforcement has led to a shortage of migrant labor which has left much of the pear crop rotting on the tree and ground in Lake County.
