Chickens roam freely in pastures recently occupied by cows at Polyface Farms on Monday, Apr. 7, 2008 in Swoope, VA. The chickens spend the day picking fly larvae from cow patties, which farm owner Joel Salatin compares in chicken terms to "a bowl of ice cream." Polyface Farms is one of the oldest and best-known organic farms in the country, and was profiled in Michael Pollan's book The Omnivore's Dilemma.
