City officials say negative attitudes about the city's more dangerous sister Nuevo Laredo have kept tourists from coming and effected the over all economics of the town. Laredo also depends heavily on tourism from Mexico, as people from northern Mexico come to the border city to make purchases on merchandise like designer clothes that they cannot find cheaply in their country, but since Mexico's border region has become increasingly violent, store owners in Laredo, Texas say Mexican and American shoppers are staying home.
