China: Dongguan
A Smart Union factory in Dongguan, China. Smart Union, listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, closed down on October 15th leaving 7000 workers out of a job - many owed months of back salary as well. Dongguan has been hard hit the last few months as the economies of rich countries falter. Export demand has been reduced and companies that were operating on the margins have folded leaving thousands of migrant workers with tough choices.
