Fakhri Golestan at her kiln. Mrs. Golestan, or Mama Golestan, as she is often called, ran two orphanages in Tehran until the revoltution came and the authorities shut them down. She then decided to become an artist. She is also the mother of the late Kaveh Golestan, Iran's most celebrated war photographer. Kaveh died in Iraq when he stepped on a mine in 2003.
