The spire forms a staircase, 400 steps and 90 meter (295 ft), designed by Lauritz de Thurah, inspired by Roman Sant'Ivo alla Sapianza, and offer the second highest panoramic viewpoint of Copenhagen. The story goes, and was made to a movie in 1997, that Thurah jumped from the top of the spire after realising that it unfortunately went the wrong way round. However, in reality he died in his bed 7 years after the completion of the tower. The decoration at the organ is from 1698 and has more than 4000 pipes..
