Palouse Falls in arid southeastern Washington state is 198 feet high. Palouse Falls is a remnant of ice age floods. The falls is on the Palouse river six miles upstream from the confluence with the Snake river. The walls of the river channel are sheer columnar basalt, layered in 100-foot-thick lava flows.
