Actor and environmental activist Daryl Hannah spoke with both passion and knowledge of the perils of mountaintop removal coal mining to hundreds of people at an anti-mountaintop removal coal mining rally and protest in Sundial, WV today, June 23, 2009. The protest rally at Marsh Fork Elementary School featured musicians and speakers -- both were constantly interrupted by the counter-protesters throughout the day. The peaceful demonstrators marched in silence, two by two, towards the Massey Energy-operated Goals Coal Plant, where about 200 coal miners and their wives were waiting for the peaceful protesters, including NASA scientist James Hansen, actor and activist Daryl Hannah, and 94 year old West Virginia statesman Ken Hechler, who were among the 29 people arrested.
