Elfreth's Alley in historic Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (PA). Only 16 feet wide, this is typical of an urban neighborhood of working class side streets developed in Phila. in the 18th and 19th centuries. There are 32 private homes and is one of the oldest, continuously inhabited residential streets in America. Restoration of the homes began in 1934 by the Elfreth's Alley Association to prevent demolition of the run-down, impoverished neighborhood. It is now a National Historic Landmark...
