Jimmy finished the race in 4th position at a speed of 323.395 miles per hour. The Corsair is best known as a Marine Corps World War II era fighter that served with distinction in the Pacific Theatre. There were 364 of the twin engined fighters built during World War II, and shortly thereafter, of which there are six that are still considered airworthy. Originally Grumman had been contracted to build 500 of the aircraft for use by the US Marine Corps to be used as close air support of the landing operations that were planned in the Pacific.
