  • Flycatching warblers like this Wilson's Warbler are skilled at catching insects in flight. But these neotropical migrants are finding it more difficult to find stable habitat and food supplies. Wilson's Warblers migrate to northern Alaska, Canada and the northwestern United States to breed and winter as far south as Mexico and Panama. They are vulnerable to the loss of stopover habitat during these long journeys. Like other migratory birds, they are also challenged by the loss of winter habitat, environmental contaminants and increased predation when they are forced to choose suboptimal forests.   • This Ash-throated Flycatcher wasn't fooled by the walkingstick's attempt at camouflage. Walkingsticks, also called stick insects and stickbugs, can defoliate deciduous forests, but flycatchers and other insect-eating birds help to control local infestations.
