  • Venezuelans marched today Sun. May 27, 2007 in Caracas, Venezuela in support of opposition TV station RCTV. Demonstrators said they planned to peacefully force a coup and that when stopped in the south of the city at police barricade attempted to rip it apart in order to block the main Caracas highway. Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez decided not to renew the station's broadcasting license earlier this year citing the station's support of the 2002 coup attempt against him. The station will go off air midnight today even though the Venezuelan Supreme Court still has not heard an appeal in the case that was made last week. Venezuelans fear the closing of RCTV is a furthur attempt by Chavez to centralize power and not allow those who are not with his "Bolivarian Revolution" to be heard. By photographer Justin Vela
