Christ Church Graveyard Independence Mall Area of Philadelphia(92 images)

The Independence Mall complex of Philadelphia is home to the Liberty Bell, National Constitutional Center and many more historical locations. The mall is the most visited area of the city. The cemetery depicted here is the oldest of it's kind existing before the Mall was developed. Many of our historical leaders are buried here. This is known as Christ Church graveyard.

  • Some of these grave stones are over 250 years old. They contain the remains of many prominent American Political Business and Social figures of our earliest developmental years. Mr. Ben Franklin is buried near the entrance gate and can also be viewed from the surrounding sidewalk with only a metal fence separating the passerby and the tomb itself. When you visit Philadelphia come see for your self. There are over 4000 graves in this cemetery and after the burial of one more decedent no one else will be admitted. By photographer William Crane
