  • American Idol winner Taylor Hicks returns to his hometown of Birmingham, AL, for a series of performances and appearances around the state in the week before competing in the show's final. Hicks was greeted with wide open arms on Saturday, May 12, 2006 when he headed home as one of the 3 finalists in the competition. Hicks' day started early with radio and television appearances and then continued with a parade through downtown and performances at Linn Park and then the Galleria Mall in Hoover, AL. The finalist beloved for his unique singing style and Elvis impersonations, also met with the governor in Montgomery before heading back home to Birmingham to address a crowd at the art museum.
