Also including Sonoma County vineyards with mustard growing in between the dormant vines.Sonoma County has rich agricultural land, albeit now largely divided between two nearly monocultural uses: grapes and pasturage. Winemaking?both the growing of the grapes and their vinting?is an important part of the economic and cultural life of Sonoma County. The most common varieties planted are Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Pinot Noir, though the area is also known for its Merlot and Zinfandel. Sonoma County is home to more than 250 wineries with eleven distinct and two shared American Viticultural Areas, including the Sonoma Valley, Russian River Valley, Alexander Valley, Bennett Valley and Dry Creek Valley, the last of which is known for the production of high-quality zinfandels..(Photo by Marc Piscotty © 2007) By photographer Marc Piscotty

  • SHOT 3/1/2007-3/6/2007 -Trip to San Francisco, Ca. including images of the North Beach neighborhood. North Beach, in the north-east of San Francisco adjacent to Chinatown and Fisherman's Wharf, is the city's most european neighborhood, with a primarily Italian flavor. The American Planning Association (APA) has named North Beach as one of ten 'Great Neighborhoods in America'. The somewhat compact layout of the neighborhood consists of three-story buildings painted in light colors dating from the 1920s, when people rebuilt after the earthquake and fire of 1906. The weather is typically San Franciscan: moderate, with occasional sunny hours between noon, after the morning fog burns off, and four, before the fog starts rolling back in from the Pacific Ocean. In the background is Saints Peter and Paul Church, a Roman Catholic Church in San Francisco's North Beach neighborhood..(Photo by Marc Piscotty © 2007) By photographer Marc Piscotty

  • SHOT 3/1/2007-3/6/2007 -Trip to San Francisco, Ca. including images of the Golden Gate Bridge. The Golden Gate Bridge is a suspension bridge spanning the Golden Gate, the opening into the San Francisco Bay from the Pacific Ocean. It connects the city of San Francisco on the northern tip of the San Francisco Peninsula to Marin County as part of US Highway 101 and California State Highway 1..The Golden Gate Bridge was the largest suspension bridge in the world when it was completed in 1937 and has become an internationally recognized symbol of San Francisco and the United States. It is currently the second longest suspension bridge by span in the United States after the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge in New York City. As the only road to exit San Francisco to the north, the bridge is part of both U.S. Route 101 and California State Route 1 and on an average day there are 100,000 vehicles crossing the bridge. The bridge has six total lanes of vehicle traffic, and walkways on both sides of the bridge. On September 1, 2002, the toll for Southbound motor vehicles was raised from US$3.00 to US$5.00. Northbound motor vehicle, bicycle, and pedestrian traffic remains toll free. The Golden Gate Bridge is a frequent site for suicide, since a fall from that height into the water is almost inevitably fatal. The Golden Gate bridge is one of America's most photographed structures, and possibly in the world..(Photo by Marc Piscotty © 2007) By photographer Marc Piscotty

The bridge consists of two major spans connecting each shore with Yerba Buena Island, a natural outcropping located mid-bay. The western crossing, from San Francisco to the island, consists of two suspension bridges end-to-end with an anchorage, plus three shorter truss spans connecting the San Francisco landing to the western cable anchorage located on Rincon Hill..(Photo by Marc Piscotty © 2007) By photographer Marc Piscotty

  • SHOT 10/23/2007 - A communist era pin with Mao Tse-tung's image on it for sale a booth in Chinatown. Mao Tse-tung was a Chinese military and political leader, who led the Communist Party of China (CPC) to victory against the Kuomintang (KMT) in the Chinese Civil War, and was the leader of the People?s Republic of China (PRC) from its establishment in 1949 until his death in 1976. Regarded as one of the most important figures in modern world history, Mao is still a controversial figure today, over thirty years after his death. He is held in high regard in China where he is often portrayed as a great revolutionary and strategist who eventually defeated Chiang Kai-shek in the Chinese Civil War, and transformed the country into a major power through his policies. However, many of Mao's socio-political programs such as the Great Leap Forward and the Cultural Revolution are blamed by critics from both within and outside China for causing severe damage to the culture, society, economy and foreign relations of China, as well as enormous and unnecessary loss of lives, a peacetime death toll in the tens of millions.
