  • Shia Muslims gather in the Halkali section of Istanbul for the annual Ashura event January 29 2007. Ashura commemorates the death of Hussein ibn Ali, a grandson of the Prophet Muhammad who was massacred in 680 A.D. with his followers in Karbala (modern day Iraq). • An Iraqi girl welcomes friends at the ruins of Saddam Hussein's personal theater (background) in Baghdad. Several Iraqi families, displaced after the 2003 invasion, sought shelter in the remains of Saddam Hussein's personal theater, built to entertain the former Iraqi President during his rule. The families fear that as property values in the Green Zone increase they will be forced into Baghdad's more dangerous Red Zone. Without running water or electricity, the families carry buckets of water and improvise electricity from nearby power lines. The heavily fortified Green Zone is home to over 5,000 Iraqis, living in the shadow of Coalition forces, the Iraqi Government, and US defense contractor giants like Halliburton.
