A small group of English Defence League (EDL) supporters and other far right nationalist groups staged a protest in Piccadilly Circus on Saturday 31 October 2009 in London, England. The groups had congregated to protest against a planned demonstration calling for sharia law in Britain by Islam4UK - a right wing political Islamist group. Another group - Muslims for Secular Democracy - also staged a counter-demonstration against Islam4UK in Piccadilly Circus and called for equal rights for women and minorities and religious freedom.
