  • Voted "Top Tourist Attraction Locals Should Visit" by readers of Denver's 5280 Magazine, Red Rocks offers more than 640 acres of scenic drives, hiking trails, geologic red-rock formations, spectacular vistas, and natural acoustics making it the perfect music venue. The 10,000 seat amphitheater was built over a five-year period from 1936 to 1941 by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). The CCC was one of Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Deal programs to provide work for young men during the Great Depression. For the men of CCC Camp SP-13-C, Company No. 1848, who worked for a dollar a day, the Red Rocks Amphitheatre is an enduring, noteworthy achievement. By photographer Richard Carlton
