United Front of Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) supporters held a mass rally in Bangkok on 31st January 2009. The anti-government and pro Thaksin protesters gathered for the whole day at Sanam Luang (royal field) before marching through the streets towards Government House. Breaking through police lines the demonstrators arrived at Government house around midnight. They did not attempt to break in and take control of the building as their rival PAD protesters (yellow shirts) did in 2008 occupying Government House for months before taking control of the airport and successfully bringing about a change in government. The UDD demands call for the coalition government to take legal action against the UDD's rivals, the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD), sack Foreign Affairs Minister Kasit Piromya and to either amend the present Constitution or dissolve the current House of Representatives
